SOLIDARITREE: ENOUGH

Community members gathered at Emery Park in Lexington, Massachusetts following the mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. This collaborative work was made to include the names of participants who inscribed their names on leaves. The weeping willing, traditional symbol of mourning, includes bark that is collaged with names of locations of mass shootings that occurred prior to Parkland.

COMPILATION

After the Emery Park gathering, signed leaves were organized and individually added to the weeping willow branches. Subsequently an empty swing was added to carry the names of each Parkland victim. The tree’s bark was collaged to incorporate names of locations of prior mass shootings.

The completed work was double-framed to preserve the dimension and shadows created by the leaves.
