I learned about the art doll concept more than a dozen years ago and have been enchanted ever since. As a child I preferred making costumes for our cat and for my stuffed animals, though I did sew some outfits for dolls. Learning about more open definitions for art dolls - and the wide range of materials involved - definitely fit my mixed-media preferences.
A fantastic book called “Art Doll Chronicles” entered my life. The cover drew me right in, and I loved the story it told, of an artist collaboration wherein each participant began an art doll & sent it on a journey through the circle of artists so each person could add something special to the doll. Finally, the doll returned home to the original maker.
In the early years, we tried (and enjoyed) this round-robin approach. One year we experimented with a parallel play option. That approach has worked exceptionally well, and allowed a larger number of people to play!
Within a few days the invitations will be sent to returning participants.
In 2019 I look forward to offering some additional paths to collaborate!
